J.C. Watts: The Great Black Hope

J.C. WattsIt is being reported that former U.S. Congressman J.C. Watts (Rep.- Ok) is considering voting for Barack Obama based on his skin color. If true, I personally find this disturbing, and hypocritical at the highest level. Mr. Watts has always been an outspoken proponent, friend and voice of the black community. He has served them well, and has done so under the cloak of conservatism.

For Mr. Watts to proclaim he will consider voting for Barack Obama simply due to the color of his skin, while understandable, is short-sided at best. Obama is an inexperienced marxist who defies conservatism in every way.

In an interview with The Ripon Forum Mr. Watts stated much truth in regard to the GOP failures to the black community. He boldly and bluntly pointed out the fact that the Republican Party ignores the black community until 60 days out from the election, when they suddenly decide to throw some money and empty promises into a few campaign ads.

As Mr. Watts proclaimed the fact he had become disillusioned about the political process, he summed up the feelings and thoughts of the voters as well.

“But you know, politics these days has gotten so crazy and so wrapped up into trying to protect my deal. I’ve become a bit disillusioned about it all. In some respects, I’ve become a little bit cynical. I’ve tried to work to not become cynical, because I think that’s often a sign of laziness. But my cynicism hasn’t come from laziness. It’s just come from operating in and out of the system for 12 to 14 years on the state and federal level and then, having looked at it over the last five years, thinking, my God, I don’t know if
we solved the problems.

Because it’s not about solving problems, it’s about
protecting my deal for Republicans and Democrats.”

Just as I understand and appreciate the possibility of the first female president, I understand the deep appeal of beholding the first ever black President of the United States. I understand the significance and what it means to the black community. However, I wonder if Mr. Watts has taken into consideration how far back a failed Obama presidency will set the black community, and this country, as a whole.

The black community is putting it’s hopes into an inexperienced marxist, that has no record of accomplishment, with a history of poor judgement, who happens to be black. When his policies fail, and they will, he will sadly be representative of a failed black community. Future generations may well hesitate to put this country into the hands of another black leader. This is why I refused to support Hillary Clinton in her campaign.

So I say to Mr Watts, with all due respect, I understand your cynicism. I understand why you retired from politics. I understand your disgust with the GOP. I understand the strong appeal of a black president.

If you truly want to better the country as a whole, strengthen and build the black community based on conservative principles, put the GOP on the right track, and give this country its first qualified black president, then I suggest you throw your qualified brilliant mind back into the political arena. We will vote for you. Not because you are black, but because you are qualified. That will be a true accomplishment for the black community, and this country. Is this not the very dream of Martin Luther King, Jr, and all of black america?
