President Obama, This Conservatives Antacid
I gave Barack Obama his day yesterday. I will give him January 20th. That’s it. The gloves are off. I will seek opportunities in which we can work together, but I will be camped out in my foxhole ready for war when his efforts threaten to circumvent our Constitution or the betterment of our country.
I was very surprised by how I felt when I woke yesterday morning. I expected to feel sad, or disappointed or depressed. I felt none of that. I felt fine. I felt energized. I felt ready to fight. I also felt a sense of relief. Yes, relief. Not relief because Obama won. Trust me, there is no solace to be found in a President Obama.
No, my relief comes from many things but mostly it comes with my realization that conservatism won. There are some issues in which there is no blue or red borders. Issues on which the majority of the American people agree. Last night conservatism won in California, Arizona and Florida. It came in the form of state constitutional amendments defining marriage between one man and one woman. This tells me there are some lines that even liberals are not willing to cross. It restores my faith in my countrymen.
No, conservatism is not dead. It did not lose. Tuesday the country chose between a socialist and an old fashioned democrat to lead this nation. The socialist won. Granted there are some that voted for him because of his radical leanings and beliefs. There are those that voted for him because there was a “D” beside his name. But for the most part people elected a symbol. That is it. They elected a symbol and nothing more.
This symbol will hopefully end this silly notion that blacks can not reach the pinnacle of success in this country. I truly do hope this goes far in healing the wounds that apparently still exist in many segments of the black community and that it will help to heal the apparent divide that continues to exist between segments of the black and white community – at least in the minds of some. Time will tell.
This symbol also decimated any chance of a future Clinton presidency. Hillary’s chance for the White House is over. For that I am thankful.
This symbol, combined with a democrat majority in both houses, will fail and they will have no one to blame but themselves. There will be no Republicans they can blame their failures on – though they will try.
It will not be long before Obama takes office and he says something along the lines of “Hey, George Bush left a bigger mess than we knew about. Those tax increases on those making more than $250,000 $200,000 $150,000 $120,000 $42,000 or more will have to lowered. If you have a job your taxes will be increasing.”
Yes, it will not be long before there is a major case of buyers remorse floating around and boys and girls I will be here to counsel you should you need it.
This is where it gets really exciting. The conservative base now has the opportunity to reclaim the GOP. The moderates that backed Obama are gone. We are in a prime position to get ourselves together, claim ownership of these issues, including social issues, sell it to the people and swarm in during the next election cycle. The only question is will it be done? I do not know but I will certainly be doing my part to keep conservatism alive.
Yes, it is a bit overcast and some storms are guaranteed to come through. Batten down the hatches because we are in for a rough ride. However, I see sunshine on the horizon.

If all conservatives manage to put their differences aside and give a newly elected president a chance to see if he can live up to the expectations placed on him, there’s a big chance the US could once more become a nation the developed world admires. I hate the image of what America has become during the past 8 years. I hate listening to those who are anti-American saying things I can’t defend. I appreciate that it doesn’t work in the Republican favor for Obama to do great things in office, but surely what’s best for America is better than what’s best for any political party?
Here’s to making your stars and stripes fly proud again.
Hopefully the true conservatives in the U.S. will turf out the people in their party with the attitude “Whoever doesn’t agree with me is OMG Teh Enemy.”
If they can do that, there might be hope for the U.S. Otherwise, it will remain nothing but two armed camps ready to obliterate each other. As long as the U.S. remains in that state, it will remain a pariah in the world.
Hopefully Obama will be able to remind all of them that they’re Americans first, Republicans/Democrats second. I don’t have much hope of that, especially since the neo-cons want to continue keeping the country in a state of virtual civil war, and they’re not going to go down without trying to take as much of the country down in flames with them as possible. But we’ll see what might happen.
Katieanne,
How are you on this fine day.
You know I love you but I must say I have no expectations for Obama except utter failure even if he succeeds in 1/2 of the things he hopes to accomplish.
Furthermore, I do not want Obama to be successful at destroying our individual liberties and destroying the Constitution.
I am sorry you hate the image of America for these past 8 years but that image was developed by our own Democrat party and news media. I am not happy with Bush right now but he certainly got a raw deal from these swine. Heck, the Congressional rating are even lower than his and who has been leading the congress these past two years? The Democrats. And who was a part of that? Obama.
And yes, what is good for America does transcend political parties. I am not a member of the GOP. I am an Independent Conservative. I suppose that is why I have no problem going after everybody that seeks to destroy the greatness of our nation.
I am proud to fly my stars and stripes. I am looking out of my window and seeing it now. It’s beautiful. I will be doing my best to protect her and all she stands for and all that millions have given their life to create and protect.
I’m doing great Virginia. Just got a thank you email from the BBC for pointing out an error in one of their articles!:) How about you?
Doesn’t your flag stand for freedom, liberty and justice for all? While the democrats are promising greater regulation especially in the financial areas where the markets have been given too much freedom in recent years, the republicans would take personal choices away from the American people. Personally I could care less about someone on Wall Street feeling threatened because big brother is watching over their balance sheet and activities, but I do care about people who aren’t allowed to make personal lifestyle choices which don’t fit with other people’s belief systems. The republicans may not have destroyed the individual liberties of some Americans, but they would have trampled on the individual liberties belonging to others. I’m as mainstream as it gets, but I have many friends who aren’t and whose rights I will defend, the rights that the stars and stripes stands for - freedom, liberty and justice for ALL.
The world has a lot of expectation from Obama. It’s going to be interesting to see how he handles that.
Hopefully, Obama will help the country realize that everyone has equality. I have a post today that I feel is quite interesting for my point of view. The country took a step forward electing Obama, but took three steps backwards for equality to all. Just click my name and read what I feel.
There’s the Virginia we all know and love.
I’m betting on a split within the Republican Party very soon. The rational reds (McCain, Powell, Guiliani, Lieberman) will help to form a strengthened Libertarian Party, while the crazies (Palin, Bachmann, Thompson, Stevens, Satan) will move the GOP so far to the right that Jesus will finally rise from the dead just to roll his eyes.
Before you start writing President Barack Hussein Obama’s (it’s safe to use his middle name now) articles for impeachment, let him at least get to the White House, and let us godless, baby-killing sodomites try just one more time to convince Arizona, Florida, and California that equality is a state of being for all Americans — because if there’s one thing I’ve learned after reading every conservative blog post on November 5th, it’s that hope does triumph over fear, change over hate. Yes we can.
Congrats, Girl! I just saw that you won the favorite blog spot in October and even though we drastically disagree on politics, I wanted to congratulate you….
Your blog is always thought provoking and well-done. Cognrats!
I can’t believe these posts. This is why our country is so polarized. There are many things that could be good for America. Equality is not one of them. We spent just about half a decade not that long ago defending our country and the world against the notion that equality is better than equity.
I am not as pessimistic about Obama as some, although if the comments on this post are any indication, perhaps I should be. Moving further into socialism is not good for America. It may be good for some Americans, but it takes away a huge part of our country’s glory and identity. We are a capitalist country, where people are rewarded for their hard work and given tremendous amounts of opportunity. Opportunity is not a house you can’t afford, an artificially high wage you didn’t earn, and health insurance from a job that you freely chose to accept knowing that wasn’t part of the deal.
I acknowledge that our country today is far from the opportunity-filled mecca of equity that we should hope for. But rather than push for equality, and giving people stuff for free, we should push for educational reform, push for grass roots level education on social issues like racism, sexism, and education, to create a place where somebody has the potential to be rewarded for their natural talents and their hard-earned skills and achievements regardless of what they look like, how much money their parents had, or other factors.
We should be seeking a society where a black man who grew up poor with the education and work experience of Barrack Obama is not the exception, not a society where everybody, white, black, or otherwise, can own a house, have health insurance, and make $40,000 a year regardless of their skills, abilities, and dedication.
By the way, I moved one of my blogs, so now they’re both at Today.com. I’d love a link if I could get one, and either way, be sure to check them both out.
