Dow Chemical to take “aggressive actions”

WAFB in Baton Rouge is reporting that Dow Chemical is about to take make some major changes in light of todays economic situation, and it does not look good.

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -The future for more than 3,000 Dow Chemical employees is unknown at this time. Monday, Dow Chemical announced they plan to cut jobs and close facilities worldwide. Gary Cambre, a spokesman with the Plaquemine facility, says they do not know what the local impact of that announcement will be.

In a news release, the Dow company announced what they called aggressive actions to accelerate its transformational strategy in light of current economic realities that, according to the release is eliminating approximately 5,000 full-time jobs, close 20 facilities in high-cost areas and divest several non-strategic businesses.

The facility in West Baton Rouge is the largest petrochemical plant in the state and one of the biggest employers in the Baton Rouge region. We’ll have more on this announcement on 9News at ten.
